Privacy policy
This policy explains what information FreeTranscribe handles and what happens to it.
Information we handle
To transcribe a file, we handle the recording, optional context, transcript, size, duration, status, and error logs. Anonymous Free uploads do not require an email address. We collect your email when you sign in, subscribe, or contact us. Stripe gives us subscription status, identifiers, and limited billing details, but not your complete card number. The service also receives IP address, browser, request, and security logs. We do not use advertising trackers.
How information is used and shared
We use information to run the service, authenticate users, manage subscriptions, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, provide support, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell customer information or use recordings or transcripts to train models. Recordings are processed on private, operator-controlled infrastructure. Cloudflare provides network services, Stripe handles billing, and SMTP2GO sends transactional email. Each receives only what its role requires. We use unlisted transcript links, owner controls, expiring sign-in links, and encrypted transport.
Every job receives an unlisted transcript URL. Anyone with that URL can follow its status and, when it is ready, read and download the transcript. The browser that created the job controls link reset and deletion through a first-party cookie; signing in transfers that control to the account. We tell search engines not to index transcript links, but you should give the URL only to people and communities you intend to reach.
Retention and deletion
Recordings are deleted when processing finishes. An anonymous transcript is automatically deleted no later than 7 days after completion. If you sign in before then, it moves into your account and has no scheduled expiry. Account transcripts remain until you delete them. Deletion also disables the unlisted transcript link. Account, subscription, support, security, and financial records may be kept longer only when needed to operate the service, prevent fraud, or meet legal and accounting obligations.
